About the Boatshed
Established in 1991, Lindisfarne Bay Boat Yard has been owned and operated by Malcolm McDougall since its inception. Starting at the age of 29, Malcolm purchased a small jetty and shed with slipways, marking the beginning of what has become a successful and thriving business. As a sole trader, he has worked tirelessly to grow the boatyard into the reputable establishment it is today.
Lindisfarne Bay Boat Yard’s Growth
When Malcolm was just 29 years old, he purchased the modest boatshed and transformed it into a full-fledged boatyard. His goal was simple: to share his knowledge and experience with other boat owners. Over the years, the boatyard has grown significantly, and today, Lindisfarne Bay Boat Yard serves both domestic and international customers.
To date, Malcolm has delivered 130 different types of boats, transporting them safely between Tasmania and the mainland as well as to 37 countries globally. His expertise in boat delivery, maintenance, and marine services has made Lindisfarne Bay Boat Yard a trusted name in the industry.
Our Founder
Malcolm McDougall, a certified Master IV Med II (GMDSS/STCW95) and Marine Surveyor, has been the driving force behind Lindisfarne Bay Boat Yard since its inception. With a wealth of experience in the marine industry, Malcolm provides a variety of expert services, including insurance boat surveys, boat deliveries, and more. His extensive knowledge of boats and yachts ensures that every client receives the best possible service and advice for their vessel.
Malcolm’s Journey
Malcolm’s passion for sailing began at a young age. Growing up surrounded by the boating community, he was introduced to sailing at the Derwent Sailing Squadron (D.S.S) and the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania. By the time Malcolm was in Grade 9, he had already circum navigated Tasmania in 1979 first Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race completed, showcasing his skill and dedication to the sport. His journey continued as he gained more experience in offshore racing, completing a global circumnavigation. This adventure took him to South Africa and the United States, where he honed his skills in both sailing and offshore racing.
After completing his circumnavigation, Malcolm pursued his studies at Maritime College, specializing in Marine Science and Engineering. His extensive background in both practical sailing and maritime education provided him with the knowledge and skills to start his own business.
